Owning a dog

Dog Obedience

If it is a cold day outside and the owner can't take their dog on a walk, they can keep their brain stimulated by teaching them how to do tricks! Teaching dogs how to do things can show them that the owner is the authority of them, and will make them listen better. For example, if you want to teach a dog how to sit you make them sit and give them a treat every time they do. Keep going though it over and over again until they know that if they sit they get a treat. Each trick our "rule" you give them can be added on to. If you want your dog to stop and sit at every crosswalk before you cross the street on a walk. You have to stop and tell your dog to sit and then give them a treat before walking again. Keep doing this over and over and the dog will eventually know to stop at every crosswalk.

You can also teach them fun things to do! As said before, dogs love attention and treats and will do almost anything to have either of them. It can take time to train your dog, but it is so worth it. The more the dog is trained and has self-control, the better behaved it will be. Teaching your dog how to shake, spin, roll over, and speak are great ways to keep the dog (and you) entertained and out of trouble. It is fun for the dog too! Your dog receives love, attention, and a treat for doing a simple trick. It is also fun to show off your dog and their tricks to friends and family!
